What knowledge gaps need to be addressed to implement city climate action plans? What does innovation mean to you and what shape does it take in cities? And what are the emerging priorities and partnerships in 2020 for cities around the world?

Over the course of five interactive sessions, cities and their partners will engage in a generative space of discovery and deliberation on knowledge and innovation needs, opportunities and priorities for the region.

This is Innovate4Cities Day at Daring Cities.

On October 15, over the course of 24 hours, the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) will present for the first time the results of research into regional research and innovation needs, opportunities and priorities.
We will present regional snapshots of knowledge gaps and needs identified for city climate ambition. In these sessions, we want to enrich these snapshots with innovative ideas and partnerships. Session attendees should be ready to run with adding their ideas!

The goal of this event is to obtain initial feedback on the knowledge gaps and innovations identified and feed these additional insights into regionally relevant, tailor-made research and innovation strategies. These strategies will provide a framework for implementation and trigger partnerships to deliver them. Feedback from these workshops will also contribute to implementation opportunities, offering immediate and ongoing value to the attending cities and participants.

Participants can join one of the five sessions on October 15.

This research is built on the work of the Research and Innovation Technical Working Group of GCoM – expanding on the priorities identified at the 2018 Cities Climate Change Science Conference in Edmonton, and city leader workshops convened by GCoM.

The ten global regions of GCoM – South Asia, European Union and Western Europe, Eastern Europe & Central Asia, Middle East & North Africa, Oceania, Sub Saharan Africa, Latin America & The Caribbean, Southeast Asia, East Asia, North America – are invited to join to create global reach as well as a regional focus.
