The “Exchange” cornerstone of Daring Cities 2024 fosters dialogue and knowledge sharing among local and regional governments, technical experts, and policymakers, emphasizing multilevel collaboration and effective climate action. The event spans several months with in-person (Bonn Dialogues) and online (Virtual Forum) components, featuring high-level participants discussing diverse climate-related topics.
Under the theme “Powering collective action to respond to the climate emergency,” Daring Cities 2024 has facilitated exchanges among policymakers, technical experts, and leaders worldwide to share knowledge, showcase innovative climate actions, and foster ambitious collaborations, advocating for integrated solutions that address the interconnected challenges of the climate emergency.
From the Daring Cities Bonn Dialogues, held in June alongside the UNFCCC Climate Talks in Bonn, to the Virtual Forum, which featured ten online events streamed from around the globe, Cornerstone II “Exchange” of Daring Cities 2024 has mobilized a diverse and engaged community to deepen knowledge and multilevel action to shape our cities.
These exchanges have produced a set of key findings, which emerge from three core pillars and that will guide our inputs in the lead-up to COP29 in Baku and beyond:
From 3 to 5 June, Daring Cities 2024 Bonn Dialogues was held in conjunction with the UNFCCC Bonn Climate Conference. This in-person event gathered key urban climate actors for discussions on implementing COP28 UAE outcomes and linking climate action to sustainable urbanization. Highlights included the CHAMP endorsing governments’ roundtable and the first joint public dialogue of COP28 and COP29 High-Level Champions with mayors and subnational leaders.
The live stream from Bonn Dialogues: Insights for multilevel action which took place on 4 June can be found here.
The Daring Cities’ offer for local and regional government policy advisors, planning officials, national government policy advisors, and other technical experts throughout August to October 2024 consists of a series of virtual offerings and training workshops, emphasizing the theme of addressing the climate emergency through integrated and holistic solutions. The Virtual Forum is dedicated to exploring interconnected factors such as food and nature, within urban policies to ensure comprehensive outcomes for society and the planet. In addition, we will spotlight Town Hall COPs as an innovative mechanism linking climate emergency action to national and global efforts.
