Frequently Asked Questions

When and where is Daring Cities 2020 taking place?

When: 7-28 October 2020 (events and online offerings will occur over the three-week period)

Where: Online as a virtual event

Due to the global Coronavirus pandemic, Daring Cities, initially planned as an in-person forum in Bonn, Germany, has been transformed into a virtual event – Daring Cities 2020: The Global Virtual Forum for Urban Leaders Taking on the Climate Emergency, which will offer various online opportunities from 7-28 October 2020.

What is a virtual event?

A virtual event is an online event that allows you to participate from home, office or any other convenient place. Virtual events are not bound to a single physical location, which allows a wide audience from around the world to participate.

We will design the program and formats to ensure that some program elements will be available for participants who have low internet bandwidth or inconsistent internet access, or restricted access to specific applications, and these accessibility considerations will be identified in the program.

Holding a virtual forum will allow us to bring together a wider audience including important local climate action stakeholders from around the globe, some of whom would not have been able to attend an in-person gathering.

What is the structure of the Daring Cities global virtual forum?

Daring Cities 2020 will run for a three-week period, from 7-28 October 2020, offering an online array of high level and visionary speakers, a series of informative workshops and personal networking opportunities. Over a three-week period, we will offer a variety of virtual formats to accommodate different topics, time zones, internet bandwidth limits, and languages. The event will help to set the course to COP26, Daring Cities 2021 and beyond.

Who is expected to attend the Daring Cities 2020 global virtual forum?

We envision this global virtual forum as the world’s first and largest online gathering on climate emergency for urban leaders. Mayors, city councilors, administrators, and urban thought leaders – as well as researchers, technical staff, business leaders, civil society decision-makers, community organizers and national government representatives, are invited to be a part of this innovative, productive and action-oriented virtual event.

Is there a participation fee to attend Daring Cities?

Thanks to the generosity of our partners, participation at Daring Cities 2020 global virtual forum has been made free of charge.
