Over 150 local governments in Japan have declared their intention to go Zero Carbon. They are now in the process of formulating a plan or in the process of implementing the action on the ground to achieve Zero Carbon by 2050. While some of these local governments are well prepared and in fact already in the process of implementing plans, many of them are still struggling with the process of formulating effective strategies.
ICLEI Japan, who has been reporting those local governments to UNFCCC Race to Zero Campaign, is now discussing with the Japanese Ministry of Environment (MOEJ) and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) for the possible ways to further support those cities to transform their commitment to action.
Additionally, for the past several years, the Japanese government has been supporting numerous cities in ASEAN countries, and is now considering whether this support can be further extended to support those cities in achieving zero carbon as well.
During this event, cities share their plans and strategies to achieve zero carbon with a special focus on their efforts toward redesigning current socioeconomic and sociocultural systems to be sustainable and resilient.
As the level of discussion will focus on detailed policy making, the session will particularly benefit viewers from the Director to Director General level.
