Cornerstone III: Advocate

What was our call to action?

Advocate the Daring Cities 2024 key findings with us

As the event transitions to its final phase, Cornerstone III “Advocate,” we extended the reach of Daring Cities 2024 beyond our community, empowering representatives to carry our key findings to major international environmental platforms towards COP29 and beyond.

We called on our fellow local and regional governments, communities and stakeholders at large, national governments, and the intergovernmental community to support our key findings by engaging and championing:

  • Multilevel climate partnerships and governance
  • Bottom-up approaches for inclusive cities
  • Holistic and integrated climate solutions

Daring Cities at COP29

In Baku we hosted a session “Town Hall COPs in the new era of local-global climate action and advocacy,” on 20 November at the Multilevel Action & Urbanization Pavilion.

Throughout 2024, we have spotlighted the Town Hall COPs initiative as an innovative mechanism linking local climate emergency action to national and global efforts, empowering communities and subnational governments worldwide to make meaningful contributions to climate commitments on local, national, and global levels ahead of COP30.

Charting the roadmap to Belém, Daring Cities is committed to promoting the Town Hall COPs to catalyze multilevel collaboration and amplify local climate perspectives within broader climate processes toward a just, equitable, and resilient future. At COP29 we shared how local and subnational governments can drive the Town Hall COPs initiative forward, paving the way for impactful local climate action that resonates worldwide.
