Daring Cities Leaders

Local voices. Regional perspectives. A shared call for climate action.

Building on the Daring Cities 2026 Bonn Dialogues, the Daring Cities Leaders initiative brings together local and regional leaders on a journey from Bonn to COP31. Acting as regional accelerators, they will amplify our five shifts for what comes next in urban climate action, connecting them with the realities, solutions and experiences of cities and regions around the world. Through their leadership, the initiative aims to mobilize peers, strengthen multilevel collaboration and build momentum for the conditions cities and regions need to turn climate ambition into action, demonstrating how local and regional leadership can drive change from the local to the global level.

Cr. Dr Elizabeth Adamczyk

Councillor, City of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia

“For climate action to gain broad support, people need to see how it improves their everyday lives. As local leaders, that means grounding climate action in wellbeing, security, affordability, and strong communities, and finding ways to turn those lived priorities into policies that can work in real political environments.”

Cr. Dr Elizabeth Adamczyk is a Councillor for the City of Newcastle and a human geographer whose work spans social, economic and environmental justice. She holds degrees in architecture and development studies and a PhD in Human Geography. Her experience across local government, the non-profit sector and union leadership includes work on how social and political structures shape just access to jobs, housing, and wellbeing. Bringing this intersectional perspective to the Daring Cities Leaders Initiative, she is particularly interested in how local leadership can advance climate action while responding to social needs and strengthening inclusive, resilient communities.
