Multi-stakeholder collaboration

Wednesday, 6 October 2021

14:00 – 15:00 CEST (12:00 – 13:00 UTC)

The Paris Climate Agreement, adopted in 2015, introduced a new era for global climate action pursuant to its 1.5°C and climate neutrality goals, as well as embracing multilevel and multi-stakeholder collaboration. The UN Glasgow Climate Change Conference (COP26), in November 2021, is expected to kick-off the second phase of the Paris Agreement, with the submission of new and enhanced NDCs. These new and enhanced NDCs should be informed and guided by the ambition and potential of all levels of governments.

The Local Governments and Municipal Authorities (LGMA) Constituency has called for COP26 and the second phase of the Paris Agreement to be the moment when multilevel and collaborative action becomes the new normal, enabling thousands of local and regional governments to fulfill their 2030 and 2050 commitments

The second High-Level Day of Daring Cities 2021 will address perspectives for climate emergency leadership from local and regional governments, national governments, as well as global partners and civil society. Cities, towns, and regions are critical battlegrounds in the fight against climate change. Local and regional governments are well positioned to tackle these threats, however, they cannot, nor should they be expected to, take on this daunting challenge alone.

Organizations dedicated to tackling the climate emergency will commit their support to our Daring Cities, announcing the dedicated actions and steps they are taking right now to help further enable and accelerate urgent and ambitious climate action in cities, towns, and regions around the world.

Statements of commitment will clearly and concisely present the tangible support being provided to ambitious local and regional governments.
