Reflect

This cornerstone serves as the foundation for a period of introspection and assessment, ensuring a seamless transition from the previous Daring Cities edition to the upcoming one. It brings together local leaders and climate representatives to reflect on past climate actions and outcomes—particularly those stemming from last year’s UNFCCC COP—  to help guide the climate agenda forward, aligning it with the new edition of Daring Cities and preparing its community for upcoming events.

  • Reflect webinar I - Building on COP29: What’s next for urban leaders driving climate emergency action

This webinar updated the Daring Cities community, about the outcomes of UNFCCC COP29 where several Daring Cities leaders made valuable interventions. Participants heard firsthand insights from local leaders who were at COP29. Additionally, the webinar featured a special focus on climate action and governance in Brazil, building on the country's NDC3.0 which prominently referred to “climate federalism.” Additionally, the progress of the CHAMP initiative was reviewed, with insights from the LGMA Constituency on its ongoing developments.
  • Reflect webinar II - Mobilizing local voices: From Daring Cities to COP30

In this second webinar on 9 April, Daring Cities continued the conversation on the implementation of COP29 outcomes in relation to multilevel action and sustainable urbanization, including updates  on the CHAMP Initiative and UNFCCC negotiations in Bonn in preparation for COP30, and the agenda of the Daring Cities 2025 Bonn Dialogues on 16-18 June. Updates on the Town Hall COPs Initiative were also shared, including reflections from the first 2025 Town Hall COP, which took place in the Greater Sydney, Australia.
  • On the road to COP30: Reflecting on how multilevel action can strengthen national climate plans

Daring Cities’ 2025 Cornerstone I – Reflect – brought together local leaders and climate representatives virtually to discuss how to build on past climate initiatives, especially those stemming from COP28 and COP29. Looking ahead to COP30, what cities and regions do in advance of this global climate summit may matter more than the conference itself. On the road to Belém, local and regional governments have a unique opportunity to engage with their national governments, shift the trajectory of the climate emergency, and push for inclusive, multilevel climate action.
